Stein stood under the spray of the shower, wondering if he had really just finished the project, and whether he had really broadcast the moment of his triumph to the community.

And whether Vanessa really was coming over.

He didn't spare much time wondering why.

Marie had been packed off elsewhere when he started the project some... well, apparently a week ago now. He didn't think about her, either. Or Kid, or anyone who might be worried about him. Instead he dried off, dressed again, and went back to his lab to scrub the blood off the floor. He'd hear the doorbell if someone rang it.

She settled against him quite happily, fingers skimming up and down his back reassuringly. She noticed he didn't look tired, and she leaned up to kiss his forehead one more time. "Do you want me to sing you a lullaby, Franken?" she asked, looking a little sad. "To help you go to sleep?"

He blinked, then shook his head. A lullaby? She came out with some of the most amazing suggestions sometimes.

"No, thanks," he said. He hadn't meant to let her know that he wasn't tired. Deliberately, he ducked his head down and rested it against her shoulder, closing his eyes. He doubted he'd fall asleep, but perhaps it would allay her concerns so she'd fall asleep faster.

"Go to sleep," he murmured gently. "Or I might have you sedated." He was joking at the last, mostly.

"If you say so," she said, fingers moving to coming up into his hair, holding him closer and sighing. She...wanted to sing to him anyway, but she was sure it would be sappy. She just wanted him to feel better now, to not see monsters or terrors or anything like that anymore. She wanted to help, just as she did with Albert and William. She sighed again, kissing his cheek before snuggling back down against him and closing her eyes.


She'd feign sleep, but she had a feeling she wasn't going to get any, either.
