Stein brightened considerably, his own confidence beginning to return. As he'd said before, relationships were difficult for him, and he hadn't been certain of this once he'd done it. But perhaps Birkin understood better than he'd feared.
He was also somewhat pleased that he hadn't had to make any incisions to get the truth out of his friend. That might have been even more awkward afterwards.
"No reason not to enjoy ourselves," he said cheerfully, moving around the table and releasing Birkin's legs and his other arm. He wasn't worried about retaliation. "And the headache should fade quickly, though you might experience a bit of weakness. I gave you quite a jolt." He offered his hand to help Birkin down from the table.
