[He's sitting in his lab, typing on his phone, his expression set in a frown. After hitting 'send' he sets it down and leans back in his chair. The lighting is dim, making it hard to see his expression, but he lets out a soft and heavy sigh]

I guess no one's even noticed.

No, no, Kid didn't say anything like that. He just said I'd broken my orders by not staying where I was like a good boy, and he was going to report me to Shinigami-sama, and then find me and haul me back there.

Frankly, I'm sure he's going to try - there's nothing more I can say or do to try to change his mind. But he's going to have a tough time succeeding.

[Kisses, smiling a little against Birkin's lips]

[Firmly, turning in the chair to put his arms around Birkin's waist] I'm not going to let him force me to go back, just to satisfy his ridiculous rules and need for perfect order. I'm staying here, with you.

[Sits down in Stein's lap, and sets his head on his shoulder] Just use your... Unique appearance to scare him off. I mean really, I don't think he'd actually want to touch you. Asymmetry is highly contagious as you may already know. [Chuckles]

Even if he does make you go back, I'll come get you again. Simple as that.

[Chuckles and tightens his arms, rather liking this] Well, he's pretty used to my appearance, since I was teaching him for quite a while. If only I were completely symmetrical, he wouldn't be able to bring himself to hurt me.

[Softly] I know you will. [Squeezes]

[Pulls back a bit to raise an eyebrow] You're kidding right? What if he's fighting a perfectly symmetrical what-have-you? Does he just... Give up and go home? [He rolls his eyes before laying his head back down]

Well, the fact of the matter is, you're just as much mine as I am yours. [He runs his tongue along Stein's jawline, ending with a gentle bite at his earlobe] And I really don't like it when people start touching my things.

[He looks up and raises an eyebrow right back] I'm not kidding, and it's happened. He nearly died, unable to fight a very symmetrical possessed sarcophagus.

[He closes his eyes and shudders, his lips curving in a smile. Turning his head, he captures Birkin's lips in a kiss, slow, measured, but fierce]

[Whispers:] You say the sweetest things.

[Birkin presses into the kiss, grasping the lapels of Stein's coat to keep himself from falling on the floor]

I only say it because it's true. [Runs a hand through Stein's hair] You're by far my most valuable possession, and if anyone is actually stupid enough to try and steal from me, they'll pay the price. [Nuzzles against his neck, mumbles] I'd sooner die than let you leave me.

[Stein holds him close even as he kisses him, not letting him fall. He closes his eyes and hums softly at the caress. Sometimes it's nice not to be dominating the situation and cutting Birkin, but just to enjoy one another's company]

[He opens his eyes and looks up, startled, at this pronouncement from Birkin, drawing back to try to look at his face] You'd rather die?

[Birkin looks genuinely confused for a minute before realizing that Stein never got to hear that particular rant] N-no! That's... Not what I meant! I didn't... Not die just... [Blushes] I wasn't supposed to say that. [He buries his head in Stein's shoulder] I'm not that desperate to stay with you. I mean- I am, but... [Decides to just cling to him rather than trying to explain]

[He buries a hand in the blond hair, more bemused and curious than concerned at the pronouncement.]

[Sincerely, even a little awkward.] Well...thank you.

[He nibbles at Birkin's earlobe gently, then flicks his tongue around the shell of his ear]

[Birkin smiles, obviously relieved and mumbles an equally-awkward] You're welcome.

[He gasps softly, eyes fluttering shut. With a bit of effort, Burkin pulls black slightly and straddles Stein's lap] Considering your love affair with this chair, [He leans forward so their lips just barely touch as he speaks] I'm amazed we've never done this before.

[Stein laughs softly, his unhappiness forgotten as he slides his hands down Birkin's back to grab his ass. Is this what it's like to have a proper partner in life? How has he lived without it for so long?]

So am I, honestly.

[He seals their lips together, a soft breath escaping him in a soft moan]

[He smiles into the kiss before pushing Stein's labcoat off his shoulders and wrapping his arms around his neck]

[Birkin pulls back suddenly, a slight frown on his face] There's something I've been meaning to do for a while, actually... And now seems like as good a time as any... So... [He takes a deep breath and lets his face soften as he pulls off his wedding ring and drops it in a pocket]

[With an almost relieved look on his face, he leans back in for another, more passionate kiss]

[Stein looks startled, tightening his arms to keep Birkin close when the blond pulls back suddenly. Then he stares, stunned, from the slightly-pale line on Birkin's ring finger, to the pocket where the wedding band had gone.]

Will...

[He reaches up and cups Birkin's face with both hands as they kiss.]

[Softly, murmured against Birkin's lips:] This is where I belong. It's obvious.

Really? [He can tell he's tearing up slightly, even though he's pretty sure Stein only feels that way right now because of Kid] N-not that it really matters. As long as we're together, I'll be happy anywhere. My experiments will follow. I can get worldhops and work in secret if I have to. [Mumbles] I can't be married to my work anymore than I can be married to the past.

[Birkin gently pulls off Stein's glasses, folds them, and puts them in the inner pocket of his labcoat] Happy early Valentine's Day, Franken. [Smiles]

[Stein doesn't feel that way because of Kid. He's not really sure there is a logical reason why he feels it, but it seems to him that Birkin is the only person he's ever known who he truly belongs with]

[He lifts his head, smiling. He'd never put much stock in Valentine's, but he thinks he'll enjoy this one.]

How about, happy today. And happy here, with you. [Another kiss] So long as I have you, I don't think it really does matter where we are.

[Chuckle] You're quite the romantic when you want to be, aren't you? Not a side of you many people get to see of you all that often. [He slides forward, hugging Stein]

Looks like we're going to be locked in a stalemate for all eternity, then. Never will we manage to find our own place to live because we have no opinion in any real direction. [Whispers into his ear:] And I wouldn't have it any other way.

...Where were we before I decided it was a good idea for us to get all romantic? Oh wait, I think it was right about... [Birkin playfully bites his earlobe] There, maybe?

[Wryly] Not a side anyone's ever seen before. But I guess you inspire madness in me, Birkin.

[He closes his eyes with a soft moan] I do like it here... Right here in my lab, with you, all alone.

[His hands slide down and then up under his labcoat, pulling at the hem of his shirt so he can touch smooth skin]

[Birkin sucks in a breath, letting it out as a contented sigh] I like it here too, I must admit.

[He leans in for another kiss, trying to take off his labcoat at the same time. After struggling with the sleeves, he breaks off the kiss with a frustrated groan] If I inspire madness, you must inspire nymphomania or something. [After managing to discard his coat on the floor, he smirks, an almost predatory gleam in his eyes] Not that I'm complaining.

[He sighs softly, wishing that there really was no Wesker, no Adachi, no anyone else on this island. Just him and Birkin and their experiments, with no one to bother or distract them.]

[He leans in to nibble and suck at Birkin's neck, shrugging out of his own lab coat as best he can while half sitting on it]

If I inspire nymphomania, I'm not complaining either.

[Birkin moans and tilts his head back to expose more of his neck] It's sort of a hard thing to really complain about, honestly.

[He slowly rocks their hips together as his hands slide under the hem of Stein's sweater] C-can I just make a quick suggestion? [Blushes] No scalpels? Maybe...?

[Stein eagerly goes after that exposed skin and nibbles at Birkin's throat, then latches on, raising a welt he's sure will turn Krauser's stomach tomorrow]

[He gives a soft moan, drawing his lithe hands around to the front to undo Birkin's belt as he stammers out the suggestion]

[He smiles faintly] If that's what you want.
